In a heartbreaking case from Assam, a man working in a private company since 2015 was allegedly fired after requesting leave for his father’s funeral and last rites.

The employee’s father passed away around 9 AM on a recent morning. Grief-stricken, the man immediately approached his employer to seek emergency leave. Shockingly, he was denied permission to leave right away and was only allowed to go see his father’s body at 3 PM—six hours after the death.

When he later requested 13 days of leave to perform necessary rituals and ceremonies for his father’s passing, the company reportedly granted only three days and ordered him to return to work immediately after.

According to the reports the employee went to the office to meet the owner and invite him personally on the Shraddha-ceremony of his deceased father , which is a ritual in Assam’s culture but he was told that he is terminated from his job.

This incident kept the shocked and devastated. “After giving 10 years of my life to this company, I was thrown out when I needed support the most,” he told local sources.

This incident has developed concerns in private company employees about their rights and labour protection. Assam government needs to watch this case seriously.
